Commission approves $22,200 overtime premium to accelerate courthouse elevator modernization

Raleigh County commissioners approved an additional $22,200 to accelerate the modernization of the courthouse elevator so the work can be completed in a shorter window that aligns with the court calendar.
Public Works representative Corey Meyer (representing County Public Works and speaking for John Ellerman) told commissioners the full modernization for each elevator could take up to three weeks but that the elevator vendor offered an "accelerated" schedule requiring longer days and weekend work that would complete the courthouse elevator in about 9–10 days. The accelerated option was proposed to fit the county court calendar—s available gap around Sept. 19—20.
Meyer said the additional $22,200 is overtime premium for extended schedule and would be added to the existing signed project contract; the original CIP approval for the project was $605,000 and the signed contract was $523,762, so the extra cost was within the original approved CIP amount. Meyer said the first elevator work will occur at the county administrative building (health/admin building), then Carnegie, and finally the courthouse; the accelerated courthouse window would come last.
Commissioners asked whether the vendor could meet the timeline; Meyer said ship dates for equipment were expected the week of the meeting and that staff would arrange delivery logistics to avoid delays. The board voted unanimously to authorize Public Works to proceed with the accelerated install at an additional cost of $22,200 to TK Elevator Corporation and authorized signatures to finalize the change.
The county noted the elevator in each building will be unavailable while being modernized and that court schedules and public access would be arranged around the work. The motion passed by voice vote; commissioners signed the associated documents after approval.
