The Stearns County Board of Commissioners voted June 24 to adopt the county’s updated five‑year road improvement program for 2026–2030.
Public Works staff presented an updated program and a parallel waiting list of projects that cannot fiscally be included. The department said the county will continue to pursue federal and state funding to supplement county resources and noted the program assumes some borrowing ahead against state aid in the short term to maintain project momentum.
Jodi Taich told commissioners she had adjusted the schedule after public concern that County Road 198 reconstruction was pushed back; Taich reallocated resurfacing projects so County Road 198 moved into 2027 rather than 2028. Commissioners and staff discussed the scale of county road mileage (nearly 1,000 miles) and the costs of equipment and maintenance.
A motion to approve the 2026–2030 road improvement program was seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Public Works emphasized the program is volatile, relies on leveraged outside funds and that projects may shift as funding and needs change.
