Code Compliance highlights community block parties and June caseload: 269 proactive cases

Representatives from the Building and Code Compliance Division reviewed outreach events and enforcement activity at the July advisory board meeting. Staff said they will host a block party on Sept. 16 at Jones Box Park from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to engage neighbors and explain code services. The department also showed a video recap of "Cody's" block party, a mascot-driven community event intended to strengthen trust between residents and city staff.
Code staff reported June operational figures: 269 proactive cases opened by officers, 61 complaints received, 280 follow-ups and 40 health inspections. They also listed conditional-use-permit inspections (32) and eight pre-operational inspections for new businesses. Staff said food-truck inspections are routine and that food-truck parks in the city must meet established permit requirements.
The division described block parties as donor-supported events that provide free food, raffles and civic information. The July discussion included details about planning, donor solicitation by Code officers and the department's year-round outreach calendar. Attendees praised the events; staff said the outreach both informs residents and brings community members to contact city staff in informal settings.
