Summary
The UN called for de‑escalation and protection of civilians in As‑Suwayda after reports of dozens of casualties, and said wildfires in Latakia displaced more than 1,100 people and affected over 14,000.
The United Nations reported deep concern about continuing violence in the predominantly Druze As‑Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria, describing dozens of casualties including civilians and condemning arbitrary killings and sectarian incitement.
The UN urged interim authorities and local leaders to de‑escalate, protect civilians and prevent further incitement; it also called for a credible, orderly and inclusive political transition in line with Security Council Resolution 2254.
On the humanitarian front in Syria, the UN said that wildfires in Latakia province have largely been brought under control but that sporadic blazes continued. The spokesperson reported more than 1,100 people displaced and over 14,000 people affected, with large areas of farmland destroyed. UN agencies, NGOs and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent have provided mobile health and nutrition teams, solar lamps, jerry cans, ready‑to‑eat rations, clean water and school rehabilitation assistance.
The briefing said UN aid operations remain suspended in some impacted areas because movements along main roads continue to be disrupted, but that agencies are mobilizing to respond when conditions allow.
