PERRYTON ' Perryton ISD trustees approved conceptual plans for Wright Elementary that add classroom space, relocate the front reception and security desk, and expand administrative and nurse facilities.
Architects showed a planned addition occupying part of the school's existing courtyard. The proposal adds five new classrooms connected to restrooms, expands the administrative suite and nurse's area, and creates a new reception/security vestibule at the former music-room location. The design also adds support spaces and reconfigures circulation so students and visitors can be screened at a single, secure point of entry.
Presenters said the additional classrooms are intended to support average-class-size needs and reduce corridor travel for younger students by locating restrooms nearby. The architects noted that if the district can identify an immediate local market for salvaged building materials (brick), they could consider removing and repurposing cladding; otherwise the modular/brick building will be demolished and hauled off.
District staff discussed temporary relocation during construction and said they have been coordinating with school leadership on interim uses for classroom space; staff said that the northeast corner of the building offers a practical temporary front for operations during work. Trustees asked for confirmation that the drop-off route and a walkable (concrete or temporary) path would be provided during construction; staff confirmed they will plan for temporary, safe pedestrian access and will seek to minimize disruption to arrival and dismissal.
The board voted to approve the conceptual plans for the elementary-phase work; the transcript records the motion and a roll-call of "Motion carries 6 0." Staff will proceed to construction-document development and coordinate phasing and temporary access plans with school administrators.
Trustees also asked staff to explore options for surplus materials and to provide a schedule and plan for temporary circulation during the renovation.
