Wayne County approves $1.33 million change order for paving contractor

The Wayne County Commission on a voice vote approved a change order adding $1,329,803.75 to the county's existing paving contract with George Asphalt Producers, preserving the original unit prices, county staff said.

County Engineer Bridal Purcell told commissioners the supplement mirrors last year's arrangement and that the contractor would maintain the same unit pricing. "The additional funds is $1,329,803.75 after their existing contract," Purcell said during the meeting.

Purcell asked the commission to roll the supplemental funds into the existing contract with George Asphalt Producers to cover additional paving work. A motion to approve the change was moved and seconded; the clerk recorded affirmative responses from the commissioners present and the item passed.

No specific project list or timetable was presented at the meeting; Purcell said the supplement follows the county's prior purchasing approach and retains the previously negotiated unit prices. The commission did not authorize new appropriation language at the time of the vote beyond approving the change order amount.

The commission did not provide further details about which roads or segments would be surfaced with the additional funds. Staff indicated the change order is intended to allow timely procurement and continuation of ongoing paving efforts under the county's existing contract.
