Bay County manager: $10 million in state funds approved for county projects

At the July 1 Bay County commission meeting the county manager announced that the governor signed the state budget and approved approximately $10 million in funding for Bay County projects.
The county manager thanked Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Jay Trumbull and Representative Griff Griffitts for securing the appropriations. He said the funding includes money for a future water plant project in the Southport community, funding to support planning for a future sewer plant in the Highway 79 West Bay corridor, and funds for the mitigation portion of the next phase of Philip Griffitts Parkway. The manager said the governor vetoed many items statewide but that the county’s listed projects were included in the final budget.
The manager said staff will draft thank-you letters for the chairman to sign to ensure state legislative leaders and the county’s lobbyists are recognized for their work in Tallahassee. He also thanked the county’s lobbyists by name for their help in shepherding the budget requests.
Commissioners noted the scale of the water and sewer projects and the time required for planning and permitting, including federal environmental reviews the manager said will be part of the implementation timeline. The board heard the announcement as informational; the manager and staff will follow up with project scheduling and coordination.
