The motion passed 9–0.
Board members explained the Cardinal Point arrangement is intended as a temporary contingency while the district continues efforts to reach a mutually agreeable long-term contract with the Northern Berks Police Commission. Earlier in the meeting the board voted 9–0 to table action on item 6.6 (the proposed agreement with the Northern Berks Police Commission), with several members saying they wanted direct discussions between board representatives and the commission before committing to a multi-year contractual framework.
Several board members asked that if the local-police option fails to reach agreement, the Cardinal Point contract would provide coverage for staff and students. The administration said the Cardinal Point authorization is subject to solicitor review.
