Board approves dispatch hardware purchase for new law enforcement center, uses E911 funds for majority

Koochiching County approved on June 24 the purchase of desktop hardware, monitors, UPS units and ceiling-mounted TVs for the dispatch area of the new law enforcement center at a cost of $16,969.07.
Staff presented two vendor quotes (SCW and SHI) and recommended the lower SCW quote as the more complete response for requested hardware. The procurement covers three desktops per station, five monitors per station (one UPS capable of supporting three PCs and five monitors per station), mounting equipment and four 48-inch ceiling TVs to display camera feeds and maps.
Jail administration reported $11,321.64 is available in the E911 fund and must be obligated by the end of the month; the remaining $5,647.43 will come from the jail administrator’s budget. Commissioners approved the purchase by voice vote. Staff said vendor and county personnel will handle installation and vendors will assist with radio and 911-calling equipment integration.
Commissioners asked whether the hardware was eligible for E911 funds. Staff explained some items (booking computers, library computers) do not qualify, but the dispatch hardware request included elements that do qualify; the expenditure plan splits costs accordingly.
