Wright County approves DOT secondary roads budget amendment; engineer reports road, bridge progress

The Wright County Board of Supervisors approved Amendment No. 1 to the FY24–25 Iowa Department of Transportation secondary roads budget on May 27 and received an update from County Engineer Jerry Abas on ongoing road and bridge work.
Abas reported that crews had hauled 12,290 tons to date on the current project and completed 63 of 64 miles in the engineering model; 1 load remained for a road that is currently closed. He said crews completed nine work orders the previous week and reported 7,906 tons hauled for year two of a multi-year program, approximately 46.5% complete.
On a bridge project, Abas said guardrail work and deck-related preparations were scheduled, with guardrail pouring and approach preparation expected in mid-week; weather had delayed some deck work. He emphasized attention to deck shrinkage and associated costs when embedding beams.
The board approved the DOT secondary roads budget amendment by motion; the motion carried. Abas also reported no additional items requiring board action beyond the budget amendment and project updates.
