Administrators said Bluebonnet is the rebranded version of Eureka Math (provided by Great Minds) and has undergone committee edits by teachers; the district described the change as a continuation rather than a wholesale curriculum shift. The presentation said the district had already used Eureka Math for two years and that Bluebonnet remains substantially similar.
The district explained funding for the purchase: it will use an Open Educational Resource (OER) entitlement (approximately $33,000 noted in the presentation) first, then the State Board of Education‑approved materials allotment that is realloted annually. Staff said the purchase will not be drawn from the district's IMA (instructional materials and allotment) funds and that the biennial IMA fund would renew in September.
Administrators also noted the district added fifth grade to the curriculum framework (fifth grade previously had not been included when Eureka was first acquired). The recommendation to approve the contract was moved, seconded and approved 5‑0.
