Commissioner Mary Moskowitz introduced the proclamation during announcements and the board read a resolution commemorating Juneteenth as the oldest known celebration marking the end of slavery in the United States. The proclamation noted local partners and events across Chester County and called on residents to observe the day.
Lanisha Cassello, executive director of Voices Underground, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the organization and thanked the commissioners. “On behalf of, our board of directors and our partners, Lincoln University, Longwood Gardens, and Square Roots Collective, thank you so much to the commissioners,” Cassello said. “We appreciate that and look forward to all of the events that are happening over the coming weeks.”
Ending: The proclamation calls on Chester County residents to mark the annual observance and the county said local organizations are planning unity events and programs connected to Juneteenth.
