A county parks staff member told the committee the land was donated by Stephen Morton and that the donor created an endowment held at the Madison Community Foundation to support ongoing maintenance. "It's, unique in that it has a fair amount of topography," the staff member said, adding that the interest from the endowment is used for "habitat, prairie restoration." The staff member described efforts to keep Mr. Morton informed and occasionally bring him to the property for site visits.
The committee discussed other county properties with endowments and the county parks foundation that fundraises for a broader endowment to support parks. A motion to authorize the donation transfer was made and approved; committee members recorded their assent with "Aye."
