Summary
Danny Danon said Israel would "absolutely not" participate in a U.N. conference next week co‑sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia, calling it "a circus" and saying the United States also declined participation.
When asked whether Israel would participate in a U.N. conference next week co‑sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia, Israel's ambassador to the U.N., Danny Danon, said Israel would not attend.
"Absolutely not. We will not take part in this conference. It's a circus, and I was very happy to see that The United States decided also not to participate in this circus," Danon said in response to a question from a journalist identified as Ambassador Adlamasud from The National. Danon said he planned to raise the issue directly with French President Emmanuel Macron when the president arrived at the U.N.
Danon described the conference as unhelpful to negotiations, saying it could give Hamas the impression that something constructive might come from U.N. activities and thereby undermine acceptance of the framework offered by the United States, Qatar and Egypt. He reiterated that Israel wants Hamas to accept the negotiated deal.
