Sullivan County updates multiple bridge, road and dam projects; several funded through Bridge NY

A bridge below the Neversink Reservoir is moving from draft design toward construction, with staff saying construction is expected in 2027 and listing a $5,200,000 cost estimate. Other Bridge NY projects described included a Pflugartown Road (Bridge 368) replacement currently in environmental review with a roughly $656,000 estimate and a 20% local match, a $3,000,000 project on County Road 142 (Briscoe Road, Swan Lake) and a $3,400,000 Chandelier Road replacement scheduled for 2027.
Staff discussed dam-related work tied to bridge projects, saying engineering reports and emergency action plans were updated when dams are integral to a bridge crossing. "The dam was integral to the bridge, and DOT said it is no longer adequate to pass the hundred-year storm without an emergency spillway," the department reported, noting changes to hydraulic openings and spillway sizing made to meet DOT guidance.
The DPW also described other construction-season work: chip sealing (about 36 miles planned; roughly 40% complete), contract paving (34 miles planned; both repair and overlay work), contract striping (95 miles completed on higher-volume roads) and several embankment and culvert repairs. The department said some projects use specialized techniques such as geocell reinforcement for failing embankments and that contract rates vary by scope (chip sealing cited at about $62,000 mile including ancillary work; full-depth repairs and overlay work cited at roughly $250,000 mile for combined repair and paving in this season's work).
