The Department of Motor Vehicles requested trailer‑bill language to reinstate a $1 vehicle registration system‑improvement fee to sustain completion of the vehicle‑registration phase of the department’s Digital Experience Platform (DXP). DMV Chief Business Officer Lee Scott said the fee had been collected through December 2023 and that the department had raised roughly $36 million to date; the proposed reauthorization would produce an estimated $7 million annually to offset about $59–$60 million of vehicle‑registration DXP costs.
