County signs off on multiple engineering contracts, approves conservation land purchases

Land purchases approved on consent: Commissioners also approved, as part of the consent agenda, the purchase of two environmentally sensitive parcels: a roughly 28.72‑acre parcel in West Orange County intended to help close habitat gaps between publicly owned lands and protect uplands and wetlands in the Johns Lake–Lake Apopka watershed; and a roughly 403‑acre parcel adjacent to Savage Christmas Creek Preserve in East Orange County, which will add to an ecological corridor spanning more than 838,000 acres across Orange, Brevard, Seminole and Volusia counties. Staff said the county has purchased 2,212 acres to date from a $100 million acquisition allocation approved by the board.
