Augusta County backs Blue Ridge Parkway group; board makes two appointments

The Augusta County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt a resolution supporting Blue Ridge Rising, a local group advocating for the Blue Ridge Parkway and for funding to repair parkway damage from recent storms.

A county staff member presented background materials and said Blue Ridge Rising is seeking support to help secure General Assembly funding for parkway repairs. “We are the gateway of the parkway,” the presenter said, noting the county’s role at Mile Post 0 and the importance of Afton Mountain to local tourism and planning.

The board member who moved the resolution said she had attended meetings and recommended the county adopt the resolution to support the group’s strategic plan. The motion passed; one supervisor said the county would allow a representative to deliver the signed resolution in person.

The board appointed Dr. Bruce Bowman to the Blue Ridge Community College board and appointed Theresa Hanger to the Economic Development Authority.
