Ashland County planning committee asks supervisors to join subcommittees for comprehensive plan update

The Ashland County planning committee presented its approach to updating the county comprehensive plan and requested board members to participate in the process by joining at least one element subcommittee or by ensuring their appointed boards and committees place plan-related items on agendas and document discussions in minutes.
Committee members showed a chart assigning planning committee members and board liaisons to research and draft specific plan elements — for example, intergovernmental coordination, transit, economic development/land use, agriculture/forestry, cultural resources, utilities and transportation, and housing. The committee asked supervisors to include comprehensive-plan discussion on their committee agendas and to record any relevant public comment in minutes; those minutes will be used as inputs to the plan.
The planning committee said Northwest Regional Planning will handle much of the data work and that the county has substantial time to complete the plan, with statutory requirements to be satisfied by the end of 2026. The committee encouraged supervisors to bring community groups and boards into the process and to contact subcommittee leads with issues and suggestions.
