Custer County adopts 2025 noxious weed management plan and implementation program

The Custer County Board of County Commissioners approved the county’s 2025 Noxious Weed Management Plan and its accompanying implementation program at the May 27 meeting.
The plan and implementation documents were prepared by the County Weed Board and presented to the commissioners. The board moved and seconded approval for both the plan and the implementation program; commissioners noted the plan is a Colorado Revised Statutes requirement and emphasized the need to align the 2026 budget with plan goals.
Staff and the weed board said the county’s weed-control work this year is supported by roughly $15,000 in budgeted funds and contractor services from a regional vendor; staff noted that grant funding was not received this year and that volunteers assist with surveys and on-the-ground treatment.
Commissioners discussed the need to include a placeholder for weed-management funding in the upcoming 2026 budget season and to consider ongoing volunteer support and aerial or ground surveys performed around mid-June.
The motion to adopt the 2025 plan and implementation program passed unanimously in voice vote, and commissioners asked staff to return budget estimates for 2026 that match the plan’s projected activities.
