WASHINGTON COUNTY — County housing staff reported Thursday that projects funded by the Metro Affordable Housing Bond and the county’s Supportive Housing Services program are making progress, and the Board of Commissioners approved a framework to prioritize one-time SHS funds.
County presenters said two bond-funded developments recently opened and that nearly 200 affordable homes were completed this quarter, with additional permanent supportive housing and shelter capacity under development. Vernon Baker, executive director of Just Compassion, described his organization’s new access center and expanded shelter capacity as a way to “touch” more people who are experiencing homelessness: “Having a 60 bed shelter to provide services to those individuals who are ... homeless ... it just creates more opportunity for us to touch those individuals,” Baker said.
