Drawbridge Villas redevelopment: developer reports cleanup work pending; financing still in process

Under old business the planning commission received an update on the Drawbridge Villas townhouse development. Staff reported no new progress from the developer and that the purchaser is still compiling documentation that site cleanup work was completed — a condition flagged as required by lenders for financing.

Commissioners and staff recalled prior commitments and a substantial environmental remediation effort on the site, with one staff member saying “I was told there was almost a million dollars spent on cleaning that site.” Staff reported the purchaser has been working on documentation, and some cleanup activity was reported at the adjacent Newberry Building where a dumpster was placed and interior materials were being removed.

No vote or formal action was recorded. Staff said they would continue to monitor progress and requested the developer provide periodic updates, and commissioners asked staff to encourage either attendance by the developer at future meetings or an email update if the developer cannot attend in person.

The commission did not receive a settlement notice or final approval for the project at this meeting.
