Supervisor Haas moved to approve the liquor license, with Supervisor Garman seconding. After brief discussion — during which at least one supervisor urged that EMS coverage and payment be worked out before next year — the chair called for the vote. The board recorded “4 ayes and 1 nay”; the motion carried 4–1.
The board then considered a fireworks permit application for ABATE. The board discussed state law changes that allow a county or city to prohibit consumer or display fireworks on days other than specified holidays, referencing recent legislative action. County staff said the new law (Senate File 303) takes effect July 1 and allows the board to pass an ordinance or resolution to limit fireworks to specific dates. Despite the legal discussion, staff noted that a permit may still be issued if the applicant requests one.
Supervisors then approved the fireworks permit by roll call: Haas, Garman, Zucker, Wachter and Math recorded “yes.” The motion carried unanimously.
One supervisor said he hoped the EMS funding and staffing questions discussed during public comment would be resolved before next year’s license and permit requests.
No further conditions were attached to either the liquor license or the fireworks permit in the board’s motions.
