EMS reports year-over-year run increase, lower run times after adding a second crew

An emergency services official (Mister Premo) told the Public Safety Committee county ambulance runs rose to 886 year-to-date, a 14.8% increase from 772 during the same period last year.
Premo said run times have fallen since the agency implemented what he called a second crew out of Hayward (described as a third crew overall), which has allowed more calls within the city to be handled locally. He said the change is a key reason average run times improved.
Premo said he is working to formalize mutual-aid agreements with neighboring ambulance services including Park Falls and other nearby providers so agencies can better support each other along county borders. He also provided breakdowns of call types, saying medical-transports and inter-facility transfers are important metrics to track. He emphasized falls and lift assists are the largest single call type and said he expects those calls to rise as Sawyer County's population ages.
Premo said he plans to develop year-to-year trend reporting to monitor response times and resource deployment and that additional agenda items on ambulance operations will be scheduled in future meetings.
