Commissioners adopt Cameron County Transportation Corridor Plan and authorize DOT submission

Cameron County adopted a countywide transportation corridor plan to guide future infrastructure and authorized submissions to TxDOT so the county may acquire right-of-way during development processes.
The Cameron County Commissioners Court on May 20 adopted the Cameron County Transportation Corridor Plan as a guiding document for regional transportation planning and future mobility projects.
County staff said the plan synthesizes regional MPO thoroughfare plans, the county’s system map, the Cameron County Green Infrastructure Vision and existing traffic counts to identify existing corridors, planned expansions and locations for future corridors. Staff presented the plan and explained it will be used to coordinate planning with the Rio Grande MPO and TxDOT.
Following adoption, the court also approved a formal agreement to identify future transportation corridors and authorized the county judge to sign documents to submit the plan to the Texas Department of Transportation. Staff said the agreement is intended to help the county acquire right-of-way during development processes for planned corridor expansions.
Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the plan and to authorize the judge to execute the submission to TxDOT.
