A Central Dispatch staff member identified as Kale told the Board of Commissioners the dispatch center completed several infrastructure fixes and is advancing planned technology upgrades.
Kale said the county found some emergency operations center outlets were not connected to the building generator during a recent storm; Information Technology updated wiring so EOC screens and audio are now on generator backup. Kale also said the county has replaced mobile computer terminals (MCTs) for several smaller agencies and is coordinating replacement for the sheriff's department pending contract outcomes.
Kale described the ASAP-to-PSAP project, a multi-year effort to let alarm companies send incident data directly into the dispatch CAD system, which he said will reduce repeated phone calls and improve dispatcher efficiency. He said the project had stalled when a state system changed providers but that a cloud-based vendor is expected to allow full deployment in about three to four months.
The dispatch representative said the communications unit supported community events with talk groups and a communications trailer, and that the center is recruiting to fill two telecommunicator vacancies; oral boards were scheduled for later in the month.
