Supervisors set bid date for Lakeside intersection project, update bridge postings and hear shop construction progress

Winnebago County supervisors on June 23 approved a resolution setting a bid letting date for a resurfacing and recycling project (Project L F M to 30 5th - 7X95) and adopted the annual resolution listing bridge weight restrictions. Supervisors also received construction updates for the county secondary roads shop.

County engineers told the board the project would recycle and repave a section linking county roads (description provided in staff remarks); the bid letting is scheduled locally for 10 a.m. on July 25, with a completion date of July 3, 2026, noted in the resolution. Staff explained completion dates are often set into the following year to allow contractor flexibility and reduce the risk of liquidated damages.

The board also approved the annual bridge weight-restriction resolution, which makes posted load limits enforceable and updates the list of posted bridges; staff reported three posted bridges were removed after replacements and one one‑lane posting was added north of Mount Valley. The resolution was adopted by voice vote.

Secondary roads staff updated supervisors on the new shop building: overhead door framing and steel wrap are in place, gutters and blown-in insulation are scheduled, the shop ceiling was completed and the office interior awaits drywall and electrical work. Staff said slab work and septic placement are in progress and a target September 10 closing date was mentioned for staggered shop closings. Road maintenance items discussed included pilot-car-controlled single-lane work, potential start dates for surface recycling (weather-dependent) and paving schedule considerations.

Supervisors approved the letting-date resolution and the bridge-weight resolution by voice votes.
