Type B project updates: trail connection and bridge design, park improvements, Millburn Pool design underway

Mike DeVito, director of Parks and Recreation, reviewed improvements completed and underway. Staff reported design is in progress for the Lakeline Park to Wilco regional trail connection and pedestrian bridge, with anticipated design completion in the third quarter and construction to follow in the fourth quarter. The Lakeline Boulevard shared‑use path design is also underway; staff are pursuing federal funding and expected a funding decision in June.
Completed items noted in the report included Vail (transcribed "Veil") Boulevard Park, North Brushy Creek Trail Park, interactive exhibits funded through Type B for the new library, sidewalk gap closure phase 6, and an arts‑collective feasibility study. Work under way includes tunnel interactive lighting and mural design (RFP to be prepared for construction), park site furnishing replacements—new tables installed at Millburn and new drinking fountains at the Cedar Bark Park (transcribed)—and high‑visibility crosswalk work that began in April.
Millburn Pool renovation is in conceptual design after an RFQ award; staff said the pool’s water‑playscape is on hold until the facility’s conceptual redesign is complete. The Millburn Pool renovation design is being performed by Kimley‑Horn (awarded by council at the April 10 council meeting), and construction for Project Recreate is expected to be bid this month with a prospective July 1 start and a target completion in Q2 2026.
Two projects were placed on hold: a bike park at Millburn Park due to a shortage of project‑management capacity (expected to be bid summer or fall) and the Millburn Pool water‑playscape until the conceptual redesign is finalized.
DeVito and staff highlighted completed renovations at Brushy Creek Sports Park (drainage improvements, shade structures, disc‑golf basket and tee pad upgrades) and new solar bollard lighting installed at the Veterans Memorial after underground electrical fixtures could not be repaired.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will bring updates to future meetings and pursue federal or other capital funding where noted.
