Board approves special-events permit for Friends of Beckwith Ranch roundup

The Custer County Board of Commissioners approved a special-events permit on May 8 allowing Friends of Beckwith Ranch to serve beer at the Ranch Roundup scheduled for June 7, 2025.

Matt Richter, a board member with Friends of Beckwith Ranch, described the annual Ranch Roundup as one of the organization’s larger fundraising events. He said the group served beer at the event for the first time last year and will improve advertising this year. Richter told the board there will be TIPS-certified volunteers (server training) on site and that alcohol will be restricted to the ranch’s fenced perimeter (the ranch property is about 3.5 acres, per the presentation).

Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to approve the special-events permit; the motion passed by voice vote with all commissioners present voting in the affirmative.

Organizers also announced an estate sale at the Beckwith property on Saturday, May 10, with proceeds and donated items supporting the ranch. The board’s approval allows the event to proceed with alcohol sales under the conditions described by event staff and volunteers.
