Probation seeks equipment upgrades: taser replacement, radios, LSIR subscriptions and a K‑9 replacement

The department also uses a licensed risk/needs instrument (LSIR) that is billed on a per‑use basis; Hutchinson said a $12.50 per use purchase would cover roughly 400 uses and that the department could buy the subscription now from current year funds to cover next fiscal year while modeling it into the FY26 budget going forward.
K‑9 program: Hutchinson requested funds to purchase a replacement detection dog (to replace a dog approaching 12 years old). He said existing donor fund balance (about $7,700) could be applied toward the cost; he estimated the department’s remaining FY26 ask for the dog at about $12,870 after applying internal adjustments and donations. Hutchinson said in‑house training capacity will allow the county to save substantially by training locally.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about costs, grant possibilities for radios and tasers, and whether the LSIR cost is recurring; Hutchinson said the LSIR is a recurring per‑use cost and proposed funding the subscription out of this fiscal year or including it in the FY26 operating request.
