School board approves member resolutions honoring students, educators and local programs

- Resolution 25‑021: WalkSafe program and statewide poster contest winners — The board recognized the WalkSafe pedestrian safety program run by the Kids Neuroscience Center and the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, introduced statewide poster contest student winners and acknowledged the program’s over‑20‑year presence in the county. Staff said the program reached more than 69,672 MDCPS students this year and noted partnerships with schools and law enforcement to improve crossings and safety infrastructure.
- Resolution 20‑519: Celebrating the life and service of Commissioner Manolo Reyes — Board members and community members praised Commissioner Reyes’ decades of service to education and the community. Family members accepted the resolution; speakers recounted his work as a teacher, budget analyst and community organizer.
- Resolution 25‑020: Recognizing Connie Kennard — The board honored Kennard for leadership in multicultural tourism and workforce development efforts that benefit youth and local businesses.
- Resolution 25‑023: Honoring Aaron Larkin — The board recognized Mr. Larkin for 35 years of service as head custodian at North Beach Elementary School and presented him with a formal resolution and testimonials from school leadership and PTA representatives.
Each resolution was presented by a board member and included brief remarks and photographs; all items passed by voice vote. Board members noted the community and symbolic importance of the recognitions and thanked staff who support the associated programs.
