Board approves health contract, charter amendment; several items pass unanimously

The Leon County School Board on May 13 approved a set of routine and substantive items, including a $1,496,519.76 renewal contract with the Leon County Department of Health and a charter amendment and charter renewal for Tallahassee Classical School.
The most consequential vote was approval of the school district's annual health-services contract with the Leon County Health Department for up to $1,496,519.76; the board voted unanimously to authorize the chairman or vice chairman and the superintendent to sign related documents. Superintendent Scott Harris (title as in transcript) told members the contract represents roughly a $300,000 increase from the prior year and that the district expects to use Medicaid reimbursement where possible but will need to cover some of the increase from the general fund.
Also on the consent calendar and approved unanimously were routine housekeeping and personnel items, updated documentation for surplus property write-offs (January'March 2025), and the district's procedural steps for instructional-material reviews and adoptions that begin a 20-day public review period.
The board approved Amendment 4 to the Dec. 11, 2018 charter between the School Board of Leon County and the Tallahassee Classical School; that motion passed 3'to—1. A recommended purchase order to Jenkins Roofing Inc. for the Godby High School Building 400 reroof project (invitation to bid no. 2452-2026) was pulled from the agenda for later consideration.
Board members also voted to advertise amendments to Policy 75.10, with a scheduled hearing and adoption set for June 17; that motion passed unanimously. The board acknowledged timelines for several textbook/adoption public hearings and the 20-day review periods required before final adoption votes at a later meeting.
Board members asked for additional budget briefings as state legislative action remains pending and could affect district revenues. The superintendent and finance staff said budget-status updates will be presented in June as the district finalizes year-end numbers.
