Miramar accepts FY2024 audit; auditor issues unmodified opinion

The Miramar City Commission on May 7 accepted the city's annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2024, following a presentation by the city's independent auditor, Anthony Brunson, PA.
Jean Borno, engagement partner with Anthony Brunson, PA, told the commission the audit was performed in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards, government auditing standards, and applicable uniform guidance. He said the firm would issue an unmodified opinion on the city's financial statements and reported no findings related to internal controls or compliance for the audit period.
City staff noted the report is used by management, residents and rating agencies and thanked the finance department for preparing the annual report. The city also received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the FY2024 report, city staff said.
During a short question-and-answer period, Vice Mayor Coburn asked the auditor whether the city is in a good financial position; Borno replied the audit opinion was unmodified and that, based on the city's numbers, the city is "very stable and thriving." Commissioners commended the finance team for their work.
The commission approved a resolution formally accepting the audit by recorded vote; all five members voted yes: Commissioner Chambers; Commissioner Sherzard; Vice Mayor Coburn; Commissioner Edwards; and Mayor Wayne Messam.
City staff will publish the annual comprehensive financial report and continue to provide required reporting to state and federal reviewers as applicable.
