The Richland County Executive and Finance Standing Committee voted May 13 to forward proposed updates to the sheriff department addendum to the full county board.
Sheriff Porter and staff told the committee the addendum largely retains the prior document but incorporates several recent changes: language on total accumulated sick leave hours, adjustments tied to the department’s shift structure (12‑hour shifts for many patrol staff), and relocation of hiring process language that had previously been codified in county ordinance. The hiring process language had been removed from the county code in a recent codification effort and was added back into the addendum to preserve department procedures.
Committee members asked whether changes had been flagged in redline; staff said that when the full document was updated it was presented as a complete replacement to the administrator and the committee. The committee discussed prior changes, shift impacts and procedural matters and agreed to forward the updated addendum to the full county board for final action.
