County awards bridge contract, receives roadwork update; construction milestones set

County Engineer Adam Clemente provided the board with construction and maintenance updates and presented a resolution awarding a contract for a bridge project.

Clemente reported routine maintenance is underway: blade operators and contractors have started dust-control prep, trucks have hauled spot rock, and the county accepted its last order of salt under the current DOT contract (100 tons) and has requested to be in next year’s DOT bid. He reported hauling totals to date and said 36 of 64 miles of a specified hauling objective were completed; he also briefed the board on ongoing work orders.

Clemente gave a construction update on the Voss Corey bridge project (recorded as Voss Corey Bridal in the minutes): a pre-pour was scheduled for the week and the deck pour would use two pumps so concrete trucks can work from both sides. He described testing procedures for beam-break tests (beam specimens tested at approximately five to seven days; additional waiting if tests fail) and explained falsework removal, guardrail installation and approach work sequencing. Clemente said the contractor can perform some finishing under traffic if appropriate and that the county may open the bridge prior to contract completion when key items are finished.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved Resolution 2025-18, awarding the contract for project BROS-C099 (project code as recorded in the minutes). The motion to approve the resolution was made by Rasmussen and seconded by Bosch; recorded ayes were Rasmussen, Luke, Ellis and Bosch; no nays were recorded. The resolution was recorded as duly passed.

Clemente also reported staffing updates (grader position open through the week; heavy-equipment operator positions noted) and other routine operations.

The board recorded the contract award and heard the engineer’s operational timeline for materials, testing and upcoming pours.
