Sequoia High superintendent reports state championships, 76 graduates and construction progress

Terry Eustace, superintendent of Sequoia High School, reported on student achievements, scholarship totals for the senior class and construction progress for a new high school and indoor facility.
Eustace said Prairie Homes won the state championship in the high jump and the girls' 4x200 relay won a state title; he also noted a student set a school record in the 800 and will compete on a track scholarship at Ouachita Baptist University. He said the school will have 76 seniors graduating and the class had over $1 million in scholarship offers that will be announced at the graduation ceremony.
Eustace told the council Sequoia students all take the ACT and the district offers preACT and ACT testing (sophomores take preACT; juniors take the ACT). "All of them. We all take it," Eustace said when asked whether all students take the ACT. He said the district helps pay for retakes if students need them, but the school is working with ACT, Inc. over where the test can be administered and is pursuing waivers so the test can be given on campus.
On facilities, Eustace reported progress on groundwork and foundations for the new high school and said work on the performing arts center (PAC) had not yet begun; he described heavy equipment and foundation work visible at the site. He also said the agricultural teaching position remains open after a candidate turned down an offer and the district will re-advertise the role.
No formal council action was taken on the school report.
