Hardee students advance to state science fair; Caroline Cornell places third

Hardy Junior High students who advanced through the Heartland Regional Science Fair to state competition were recognized by the Hardee County School Board on May 5.
Miss Nicholson introduced the recognition. The district sent 16 students to the Heartland Regional Science Fair this year. Nine middle-school students from the Heartland region advanced to the state science fair; five of those nine were students from Hardy Junior High.
Board members read the names of the regional participants: Caroline Cornell, Anderson Gray, Laney Kate Johnson, Madison Cervantes, Riley Tubbs, Alexa Rodriguez, Braylen Kelly, Belen Medina, Kyrie Cisneros, Danielle Congleton, Annalee Gonzales, Kevin Kite, Erin Malloy, JC Patterson, Leilani Tonoco and Alice Walkington. Caroline Cornell was recognized for placing third at the state science fair.
Students who were present briefly spoke about their projects. One student described a tomato-plant experiment testing whether plant orientation in a greenhouse affected height and production; another described testing fungicide penetration for young citrus trees.
The board praised students and staff for their accomplishments and noted the experience of judging and presenting to panels at regional and state competitions.
