Justice Center 38% complete; structural concrete done, county engineer says

San Patricio County officials told the Commissioners Court that the county’s Justice Center construction is about 38.5% complete and moving toward mechanical, electrical and plumbing milestones that will shape the schedule over the next months.
County Engineer John Hernandez reported the month’s payout at roughly $2.8 million and said structural concrete for the basement, first, second and third floors and the penthouse has been completed. Hernandez said other large items include delivery of veil materials and a chiller unit already on site, which he identified as a roughly $275,000 item.
“Fulton has offered you guys the courts a field review at y’all’s convenience,” Hernandez said, offering commissioners a site tour. He said the project schedule identifies MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) installations as the critical path through mid-July and that first-floor first coat painting is scheduled between July and mid-August.
Commissioners discussed apparent discrepancies between the contractor’s schedule and on-the-ground progress. Hernandez said some items listed as 0% complete on the published schedule are underway and that prior work (such as hangers for HVAC) had to be in place before concrete pours. He urged commissioners to visit the site for an up-to-date view.
The county distributed progress photos to the court and staff said the project remains on a timeline tied to upcoming phases that include the courthouse renovation.
