San Ramon emphasizes wildfire preparedness, points residents to new state fire maps

A city official said San Ramon is prioritizing wildfire prevention and response in coordination with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District and other regional partners.

The official said the city and the fire district create firebreaks in open space and maintain contracted cattle grazing to reduce grass fuel on hills. The speaker also described recent outreach with the California Department of Insurance and said the district gave presentations to the council and the public last week to outline preparedness work.

“Wildfire prevention, mitigation and insurance rates continue to be topics that are priorities, for all of us in our coalition,” the city official said, noting the city participates in state and federal legislative advocacy with Tri-Valley partners.

The presenter called attention to newly published state fire hazard maps and said some San Ramon areas fall into “high” or “very high” categories. The official encouraged residents to review the maps during a 120-day public comment period and to use the website listed in the presentation to submit comments.

The speaker said future public briefings are planned with other partners, including local water districts, to explain agency-specific preparedness and service-level changes.
