District technology update and Del Mar Hills modernization progress outlined

Cybersecurity and authentication: Technology Director Sam Flambeck said MFA for the district Synergy student information system is fully implemented and working. The district is testing MFA for Google accounts with a small teacher cohort and plans to move staff-wide before the school year ends. Flambeck described ongoing phishing simulations and an employee security training program.
AI and educational technology pilots: The technology team supported an AI professional-development series for a cohort of roughly 30 teachers; the district purchased about 150 Gemini (Google) educational licenses for staff and issued guidance on acceptable employee use of AI in instruction. Flambeck said the district is piloting virtual-reality headsets with innovation technologists at Torrey Hills and will advance pilots before deciding on an adoption.
Classroom tools and monitoring: Teachers use Hapara for classroom device monitoring and the district’s internet filter blocks categories such as gaming and restricts YouTube. Flambeck said the filter includes human review for self-harm and bullying searches and that staff follow up with sites where flagged content appears.
Summer and site-specific technology work: The technology department listed a summer plan that includes cleaning and re-imaging devices, replacing interactive panels and preparing Del Mar Hills Academy technology infrastructure.
Del Mar Hills modernization progress: Facilities staff reported active work at Del Mar Hills — standing-seam metal roof installation, HVAC register installation, window and interior cabinet work, and acoustic paneling in the library/innovation area — and said AT&T was activating the new internet circuit at the site. The technology department expects to install switches, wireless access points, phones, speakers and cameras to support occupancy when the site opens.
