The Floyd County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 14 approved a package of administrative and operational measures including buying software for the county transfer station, adding a four-way stop at a safety-challenged intersection and issuing two awareness proclamations.
The board voted to purchase WasteWorks software and related licensing and support for the scale house and transfer station; supervisors authorized installation and the recurring support agreement that carries quarterly maintenance costs. The board also voted to install a four-way stop, rumble strips and additional safety signage at the Shooting Creek–Franklin Pike intersection after repeated safety concerns and local requests. Supervisors designated Supervisor Linda Cookenbrook as the county's voting delegate to the Virginia Association of Counties (VACO) annual meeting and named the county administrator as alternate.
The board accepted proclamations naming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and approved routine items including disbursements and minutes from the Sept. 23 meeting. The board took a closed-session vote on possible acquisition of green-box (recycling/drop-off) sites and certified its closed-session discussion afterwards.
