Remus said the total number of buildings subject to recertification increased from 53 to 54 after an insurance review identified an additional multi‑unit property. He reported 25 buildings have completed recertification and received certificates; 23 buildings are actively undergoing restoration work. Submissions for review were limited at the time of the presentation, and one building had an open electrical permit in review.
Remus said the program faces technical challenges because older buildings sometimes contain nonconforming conversions (for example rooms repurposed as fire‑pump rooms) and flood‑zone constraints that complicate bringing structures into current compliance. He and fire‑department staff continue individual outreach to building owners to resolve outstanding items.
