Atlantic County forms ad hoc Artificial Intelligence and Technology committee

The Atlantic County Board of Commissioners voted to establish an ad hoc committee on artificial intelligence and technology during its Oct. 19, 2025 meeting, naming Commissioner Parker as chair and inviting Commissioners Gatto and Ruffio to serve.

Commissioner Parker said the committee would act as a county-level think tank to "kick the tires" on emerging technologies, document current county tools and contracts, and identify existing guardrails before recommending policy changes. Parker emphasized the committee's focus on ethics, equity and practicality and said county administration should attend meetings to inform what is feasible under existing infrastructure and contracts.

Commissioner Gatto and Commissioner Ruffio agreed to serve. Commissioners discussed the committee's initial scope as an inventory of current technology, IT infrastructure and contract language, followed by recommendations on safeguards and potential policy language. Parker thanked a range of local partners and stakeholders who had supported preliminary work, including County Executive Dennis Levison, board solicitor Ken Warren, county council members and representatives from Stockton University and local innovation organizations.

The board treated the committee formation as an internal, commissioner-level ad hoc committee; Parker said administration, legal counsel and technology staff would be invited to meetings. No formal ordinance or policy was adopted at the meeting; the committee will return with findings and suggested next steps for the board to consider.
