County parking garage project progressing but ADA and egress code issues remain

County staff and the parking garage contractor gave commissioners a progress update Wednesday and flagged unresolved code and access questions that could affect the project's layout.
A department head said contractors and engineers reported the top floor painting was about 70% complete as of the previous Friday and that demolition of concrete decking that needs replacement had started this week. "They are to start demolishing the concrete, the decking that needs to be replaced. They're starting that this week," the department head said.
Project representatives raised concerns about recent changes to parking and access standards. The department head said the location of ADA parking and the size of required parking spaces may push parking out into an exit traffic lane. "They're concerned with how this the size of the parking spots now. It might push out and exceed into the traffic lane where you're exiting this way here," he said.
Greg Haddeus, introduced as vice president of Carl Walker, was described as being "on‑site an awful lot" and participating in frequent progress meetings; staff said they will meet with the contractor each Friday going forward. County staff said the project remains on schedule "depending on weather and things of that nature." One county official said stamped plans may include a note affecting egress and that the team is seeking a solution.
Contractors told staff they had secured required insurance and a dumpster permit. County staff also reported plans to continue using the IVW Building for judicial sales and auctions because of its space and microphone setup; the department that runs auctions said the facility was well organized and they planned to continue using it.
County staff said they will keep commissioners updated as code questions are resolved; no formal decision or change order was made in the work session.
