Planning commission backs alcohol permit for 109 State Street, Pappy Jack's expected to occupy site

The Decatur Planning and Zoning Commission on Aug. 5 voted to recommend City Council approve a specific use permit to allow on-premise alcohol sales at 109 State Street, the former Fuzzy's location.

Planning Director Lisa Hannon entered the staff report "into the record by reference" and said the property is in the Decatur Square Business District (Zone C1A) and that an alcoholic beverage permit requires a specific use permit; staff recommended approval of SUP 25-0004. Hannon said property owners within 200 feet were notified and staff received no responses.

Commissioners asked about the type and hours of the restaurant. A commissioner who said they had visited the operator's Springtown location described the business as serving "burgers, fries, catfish, home style plates" and said the Springtown location closes at 10 p.m. and opens at lunch; the speaker said they expected similar hours for the Decatur location. Commissioners offered a welcome to the incoming business.

No public speakers appeared for or against the application. Following brief discussion the commission voted to recommend approval to City Council; no commissioners voiced opposition during the vote.
