Wright County supervisors approve hire, decline insurance increase and adopt two administrative resolutions

Wright County supervisors approved routine personnel and administrative actions and voted on two resolutions on Aug. 4 during a regularly scheduled meeting.
The board approved hiring a replacement telecommunications specialist for the Wright County Communications Center, with a starting wage of $24 per hour and scheduled raises of $0.25 per hour after six months and again after 12 months if performance reviews are positive. The new hire’s proposed start date is Sept. 15 and the candidate must complete a pre-employment physical before beginning work.
"She'll be starting September 15," Wright County communications staff said when presenting the offer, and supervisors approved the hiring by voice vote.
Supervisors also approved a same‑day request to use the courthouse grounds for an event hosted by a local development association, and they approved the minutes and claims from the July 28 meeting.
On resolutions, the board approved Resolution No. 2025‑27 to designate voting representatives to the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC). By roll call vote the supervisors recorded: Rick Rasmussen — aye; Ashley Bosch — aye; Betty Ellis — aye; Lynn Lukes — aye; Dean Clouse — aye. Motion carried.
On county insurance for the courthouse, the board reviewed a July 22 email from Jayla Fever reporting that the county’s insurer, ICAP, had offered to increase building coverage on the courthouse to $30,000,000 from $15,000,000 for an additional annual premium of $23,935 while ICAP completes a formal valuation. County staff and several supervisors expressed concern that the premium increase was large relative to uncertain rebuilding costs and recommended waiting for ICAP’s valuation.
"I feel better with 30 million dollars coverage," Jayla Fever wrote in the email, but several supervisors said they preferred to wait for ICAP’s formal valuation. The board voted to maintain the courthouse coverage at $15,000,000 and decline the insurer's offer for now; the motion passed by voice vote.
On a separate administrative resolution, the board approved Resolution No. 2025‑28 authorizing the secondary roads department to use the Wright County UEI (Unique Entity Identifier) so the county can seek federal reimbursement related to FEMA disaster funding. The resolution passed by roll-call vote with the same recorded ayes: Rasmussen, Bosch, Ellis, Lukes and Clouse.
No changes to county policy on seismic testing or drainage were made at this portion of the meeting; the board recessed later to continue discussion on those items.
