Somerville officials report shortage of crossing guards, cite short-term deployments and traffic‑calming pipeline

Committee Chair Kristen Strezzo opened two related orders on April 16 seeking a city response to recent incidents in which children were struck near schools and an update on crossing-guard staffing. Police and mobility officials told the Committee on Equity, Gender, Seniors, Family and Vulnerable Populations that the city faces a multi-year recruitment problem but is pursuing short-term and longer-term measures.
