Board approves multiple leases, grants and appointments; several items passed on first reading
Summary
At the March 13 meeting the San Francisco Board of Supervisors adopted multiple resolutions and ordinances including airport lease amendments, transportation grants, Caltrans master agreements, sidewalk-width changes and departmental appointments. Several financial grants were authorized for public works and public safety programs.
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on March 13 adopted a number of routine and committee items, including lease amendments, grant acceptances and appointments. Actions approved with little or no debate included:
- A first-reading ordinance (item 20) that amends the city ordinances to add positions in the Department of Public Health and the adult probation department and authorizes the sheriff’s department to accept and extend an 18-month grant of $995,128 from the Correctional Standards Authority for the mentally ill offenders crime reduction grant program; the ordinance passed on first reading.
- A resolution approving Amendment No. 4 to Travelex America, Inc.’s lease at San Francisco International Airport for foreign currency exchange in the new international terminal and existing terminal (item 21); the board adopted the resolution.
- A resolution designating UniServis LLC as the city’s authorized representative in sale and use tax records examination (item 22); adopted.
- A Department of Public Works resolution (item 23) authorizing acceptance and expenditure of state and federal grants for two streetscape projects: Valencia Street (federal $1,327,950; state $172,050) and Leland Avenue Streetscape Improvements (federal $1,559,899; state $202,001). The resolutions were adopted.
- A resolution (item 25) authorizing the director of public works or designee to execute master agreements, supplemental agreements, fund exchange and fund transfer agreements and amendments with the California Department of Transportation; adopted.
- Sidewalk-width ordinances (items 27 and 28) adjusting official sidewalk widths on sections of Folsom Street and Stockton Street passed on first reading.
- Appointments and committee assignments approved included the appointment of Fred V. Abadi, Ph.D., as Director of Public Works/Road Commissioner (item 30, ordinance passed on first reading), and appointments to the Western SoMa Citizens Planning Task Force and San Francisco Local Agency Formation Commission (items 31 and 32).
- A grant-related resolution (item 42) authorizing the sheriff’s department to apply for, accept and expend $708,333 from the Division of Community Partnership (Intergovernmental Partnership Grant Program) to fund programs intended to reduce recidivism and prevent victimization was adopted as a committee report.
Several items were continued or tabled for further consideration, including environmental appeals and items requested for continuance by supervisors. Where an item passed only on first reading it will return to the board for final adoption under the ordinance process.
