Court authorizes RFP for K‑Loop bridge rehabilitation after July flood; bid schedule set for November

Kerr County Commissioners on Oct. 14 authorized advertising a request for proposals for the disaster recovery rehabilitation of the K‑Loop (Rio Vista) Bridge, which sustained damage in the July 4 flood.

County Engineer Bobby Gore told the court that plans and specifications have been prepared and reviewed by TEEX Task Force 1, Pate Dawson Engineering, TxDOT, the county engineer’s office and FEMA. The specifications are designed to minimize in‑water work and avoid the need for a temporary bridge, though scheduled short closures are expected during specific operations.

Gore said the rehabilitation approach reduced the county’s FEMA footprint by roughly $5.5 million compared with earlier scopes and is expected to limit traffic disruption to short, scheduled closures. The court voted unanimously to authorize the RFP.
