Bay County approves Ironman route, multiple engineering contracts and deed acceptance

The board voted to authorize use of county and city right-of-way for the Ironman Gulf Coast 70.3, scheduled for Saturday, May 10, after a brief presentation from Visit Panama City Beach representative Dan Rowe. “We have been doing it for over 40 years,” Rowe said, asking the board to approve the route so organizers can finalize logistics.
In the consent agenda, the board approved multiple contract awards recommended by staff: a $697,110 contract to Dewberry Engineers Inc. for subaqueous water main construction engineering and inspection at DuPont Bridal; a $512,060 award to Infrastructure Solutions Inc. for Phase 1A septic-to-sewer construction engineering in North Bay County; and a $1,225,000 award to ASRUS LLC for injection well construction engineering and inspection at the North Bay wastewater treatment facility. The board also approved sea-turtle and wildlife monitoring contracts with Panama City Beach Turtle Watch Inc., a two-year piggyback emergency-services network agreement, and a mutual aid agreement with Naval Support Activity Panama City for firefighting and emergency medical services.
The board moved item 5 from the consent agenda to regular business and then approved acceptance of a deed from Minto LMWS LLC conveying property to Bay County. County Attorney noted the parcel related to a crossing under an FPL right-of-way and said the roadway is expected to be turned over to FDOT in the future.

Commissioners and staff urged organizers of the Ironman to coordinate with county crews and place electronic message boards to inform residents about the race. Dan Rowe said the swim and run portions are within the Panama City Beach city limits and that the event typically has limited local traffic impact because the half-distance race moves faster than the full Ironman.
